Visit of POLCOLD President, Mr. Piotr Sliwinski in Albania, 16 -18 July 2024
From July 16 to 18, 2024, at the invitation of the Chairman of the National Committee of Albania for Large Dams (ALBCOLD), a delegation of the Polish Committee of Large Dams (POLCOLD) headed by the President of this Committee, Mr. Piotr Sliwinski had a three-day working visit to Albania.
During this visit, a meeting was organized with members of ALBCOLD as well as visits to several main dams in our country such as the Vau i Deje HPP dams, the Thane dam, the Tirana artificial lake dam, etc.
On July 16, 2024, working visits were organized to the dam of the artificial lake in Tirana as well as the Qyrsaq and Zadeja dams of Vau i Dejes HPP. During these visits, opinions were exchanged regarding the monitoring of large dams and the challenges for their future.
Also, Mr. Sliwinki was introduced to the monitoring methods of these dams by the users as well as the requests and Regulations prepared by the ALBCOLD for the users of the related dams with the monitoring of large dams and their control
On July 17, 2024, the President of POLCOLD took part in a meeting with the members of ALBCOLD where he presented the dam safety situation in Poland, the organization of the dam sector as well as the relevant legislation for the control of dam safety in his country. He specifically focused on the challenges in the future in this sector about improving the safety control of dams and their monitoring, as well as in cooperation with key factors in this sector.
Also, Mr. Sliwinki stopped at the next activity that will be organized by POLCOLD in cooperation with ICOLD and other homologous committees. In October 2024, a second working meeting with ALBCOLD in Warsaw is planned, the 13th EUROCOLD Symposium in September 2026, as well as the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the creation of CFBR in France.
On July 18, 2024, together with Polish friends, a working visit was organized to the Vlashuku Dam and the Thane Dam, which serve to irrigate agricultural lands in Lushnje and Divjake.
At the end of the day, a visit was made to Berat’s castle, where Polish friends got to know the history and culture of this city, which is included in the list of protection by UNESCO, and enjoyed the beauty of nature around the castle, where the Osum river flows.
