During May 2024, ALBCOLD organized several important activities in the framework of the 60th anniversary of its creation and the Day of Dams. Information about these activities is given in the previous announcements that can be viewed on the website of ALBCOLD.
On 23.05.2024, the National Committee of Large Dams (ALBCOLD) organized the usual meeting for May 2024. In this meeting, several main issues were analyzed and reviewed as follows:
- Problems related to the Operation, Monitoring, and Safety of the large dams administered by the Durres, Shijak, and Kruje municipalities of the Durres district. Based on the annual reports submitted to ALBCOLD, it was observed that the Municipality of Durres has not provided any information and report regarding the condition of the large dams that are administered by it. From the examination of the annual reports submitted by the municipalities of Kruje and Shijak, it is observed that in all the large dams administered by them, there is no data for the real monitoring and instruments of these dams, no preparedness plans have been prepared in case of civil emergencies and there is no alarm system installed in these dams or in the urban areas below them. Although according to the legislation in force, the measurement of the current volumes of water and sediments in the reservoirs created by them is required at least once in 5 years, it turns out that no actual measurement of these volumes has been carried out in these reservoirs for more than 30 years. Also, in all the large dams administered by the three municipalities of the Durres district, there is no assessment of the assets of the dams and their elements or a register of this real estate. Based on the above analysis, ALBCOLD required the Durres Municipality to submit a report regarding the current condition, monitoring, maintenance, and safety of the dams administered. Also, ALBCOLD will require them, as users of the large dams that are administered by them, to take emergency measures for the maintenance and monitoring of large dams through the installation of monitoring systems and the creation of a database for monitoring dams and reservoirs created by them; to prepare preparedness plans in case of civil emergencies due to the maximum flows that can come to the reservoir created by the dam or the possible destruction of the dam and to draw up the Regulations for the use, monitoring, and safety of dams according to the requirements of Article 29 of DCM than above.

- Review of the EUROCOLD Initiative for the organization and promotion of the Dam Day. Based on the request of EUROCOLD and the initiative of several homologous Committees, ALBCOLD agreed to support this initiative and organize visits and meetings with young engineers and students at several dams in the country, publish posters with views of dams in Albania, etc.
