Visit of ICOLD President, Mr. Michel LINO in Albania, 14 -17 Maj 2024
From May 14 to 17, 2024, at the invitation of the National Committee of Albania for Large Dams (ALBCOLD), the President of the International Commission of Large Dams (ICOLD), Mr. Michel Lino was in Albania.
During this visit, activities, meetings, and visits to several main dams of our country were organized.
On May 15, 2024, a meeting was organized with the President of the Academy of Sciences (ASH), prof. Skender Gjinushi, where the vice chairman of ALBCOLD, Mr. Fatos Hoxhaj, and the chairman of KTPD, Mr. Dhimiter Vogli, etc. During the meeting, cooperation between them was discussed ASH and ALBCOLD as well as for the fruitful collaboration between ALBCOLD and ICOLD. During this meeting, the participants spoke about personalities
in the field of dams who have been part of ASH, such as Prof. Petrit Radovicka and Prof. Fahrudin Hoxha.
After this meeting, a visit to the HEC Banje dam was organized, where they also took part the former president of EUROCOLD, Mr. J.J. Fry, Chairman of ALBCOLD, Mr. Arjan Jovani, member of KTPD, Mr. Agim Lazareni.
On May 16, 2024, the President of ICOLD took part in the international Symposium entitled “Challenges and Innovations for safe dams” which was organized in the framework of the 60th anniversary of Albania’s membership in ICOLD and based on cooperation with homologous Committees in the field of dams, This symposium was organized in collaboration with the French Committee of Dams and Reservoirs (CFBR).
During the international symposium, some important issues for today and the future of the large dams sector were discussed as follows:
- Dam Safety Organization and Governance Framework
- Technical guidelines for dams and large reservoirs
- Innovations for Dams and Reservoirs and their monitoring
The symposium was attended by representatives of ALBCOLD, CFBR, ICOLD, the French Embassy in Tirana, MIE, MBZHR, ASH, AMBU, the Polytechnic University of Tirana, users of the large dams, as well as engineers in the field of design and implementation of large dams in Albania.
In the first part of the symposium, the President of ICOLD, Mr. Michel Lino, pointed out the Challenges and Opportunities for Dams and Reservoirs in the 21st century where, among others, he emphasized the importance of modernizing the monitoring of dams and measures for their safety. On May 17, 2024, together with French friends of CFBR, a working visit was organized to the HPP of Vau i Deje dams, which are part of the Drin cascade, which is the largest producer of energy in our country.
At the end of the day, a visit was made to Rozafa Castle, where all the French friends were impressed by the history and culture of these three and enjoyed the beauty of nature around the castle where the rivers Kiri, Drin, and Bune meet.
