International Symposium “Challenge and Innovation for better Dams”, Tirana, on 16-17 May 2024

In honor of the 60th anniversary of Albania’s membership in ICOLD and based on the cooperation with similar committees in the field of dams, the National Committee of Large Dams of Albania (ALBCOLD) and the French Committee of Dams and Reservoirs (CFBR) have planned to organize, in dates 16-17 May 2024, an International Symposium entitled “Challenges and Innovations for Safer Dams”.
On the first day of the activity on May 16, 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., which will be organized at the Tirana International Hotel, Tirana, some important issues for today and the future of the large dams sector will be discussed as follows:
- Dam Safety Organization and Governance Framework
- Technical guidelines for dams and large reservoirs
- Innovations for Dams and Reservoirs and their monitoring
Representatives of ALBCOLD, CFBR, representatives of ICOLD, French Embassy in Tirana, MIE, MBZHR, Academy of Sciences, AMBU, Polytechnic University of Tirana, Polis and Metropolitan University, foreign agencies that support various projects in Tirana will take part in the symposium. Albania, Users of the largest dams and engineers in the field of design and implementation of large dams in Albania.
In the first part of the symposium, greetings from the President of ICOLD, Mr. Michel Lino, President of CFBR, Mr. Denis Aelbrecht, Chairman of KKDM, Mr. Arjan Jovani as well as representatives of the Albanian Government and the French Embassy.
The symposium will be held in French and Albanian, respecting the partnership of this activity and the cooperation between the two Committees. Also, during the development of the activity, an online connection will be created with CFBR members and French colleagues who have expressed their desire to participate in this activity but are unable to travel during this period.
On the second day of this activity, ALBCOLD in cooperation with APC sha will organize a working visit for French and ICOLD friends to the large dams of the Drin River cascade.
