Albania supports EURCOLD initiative for the Dams and Reservoirs Day with theme: “Securing Water Resilience for Europe”, May 2026

Europe is home to more than 8000 large dams which enable the creation of water reserves of more than 450 billion m3 of water. This infrastructure plays an important role in water management, energy production, agricultural irrigation, drinking water production, flood protection and climate change resilience.

Dam and Reservoir Day 2026 is an Initiative initiated by the European Regional Club of ICOLD (EURCOLD) which will be organized in the last week of May 2026 by all European National Dam Committees.

This initiative was first launched by ITCOLD in May 2024 to promote the role of dams and reservoirs in the economic, social, and environmental context.

This year, the event will take place on 24 May 2026 with the active participation of EURCOLD member countries.

The main theme of this year’s event will be “Securing Water Resilience for Europe”. This message highlights the critical importance of securing water reserves, sustainability, and reliability of water resources and infrastructure across vEurope.

EURCOLD will worls together with European National Committees to increase engagement, ensure synchronisation, and promote the key objectives of Dams and Reservoirs Day 2026.

Furthermore, EURCOLD will also plan activities and promote the European dams sector during the ICOLD annual meeting in Guadalajara, Mexico, in the last week of May 2026.
